TLH Heliskiing
About TLH Heliskiing
|
Many heli-skiing runs start on the high alpine glaciers and end well below tree line, deep in the valley bottoms. The glaciers and alpine bowls of our heliskiing tenure seem to go on forever. Rip turns through deep blankets of powder surrounded by jagged and awe inspiring peaks. For many skiers, tree skiing is the essence of heliskiing. The treed-terrain is challenging and the deep snow lies protected from the elements amongst the spectacular old growth forests.
Vertical Footage
Our packages guarantee a certain amount of vertical footage depending on the length of your heliski tour. The average footage skied per week is approximately 130,000 vertical feet (39,600 vertical meters). Well over 200,000 vertical feet (61,000 vertical meters) have been skied in a week, while on some occasions, only 70,000 vertical feet (21,300 vertical meters) have been accomplished. The base for TLH Heliskiing is at Tyax Mountain Lake Resort, on the shores of beautiful Tyaughton Lake, approximately 125 miles north of Vancouver, British Columbia. TLH Heliskiing operates in the South Chilcotin Mountains which is the transition zone between the Coastal Mountains and the dry rolling Fraser Plateau. We have the best of both worlds - magnificent mountains, an abundance of dry powder snow and plenty of sunshine. To date we have in excess of 300 named and mapped runs in an area of 830,000 acres.
The TLH 'vital signs' using historical data since 1991:
- Snowfall: 45 to 60 feet
- Temperatures: Range from 23°F to 5°F
- Snow Conditions: Excellent to Good about 75% of the time
- Down days: One-half down day per week
Tucked away in the South Chilcotin Mountains lies the largest log lodge in the West. Romantically nestled on the shores of Tyaughton Lake with views of snow-covered peaks up to 9,000 feet.

Guide Certifications & Experience
| Our heliski guides are all professionals that have passed a series of comprehensive examinations to qualify them as members of the A.C.M.G. and the U.I.A.G.M., the recognized Canadian and International Mountain Guide Associations. They are experienced at balancing exciting and challenging skiing with the safety and enjoyment for the entire group. Our guides also participate in yearly refresher courses, both at TLH Heliskiing and as part of their ongoing training as certified mountain and ski guides.
Mountain Safety
Weather and snow conditions are continuously monitored by our guides and snow safety team. Terrain and specific runs are chosen based on the current conditions every morning. In addition, together with other leading heli-skiing companies in British Columbia, we sponsor an ongoing avalanche research project with the University of Calgary. |
