The ski area of Alpe dHuez is made up of Alpe dHuez and 5 other resorts tucked away between the pine trees. These other villages which have kept their traditional charm are Auris-en Oisans, La Garde, Oz-en-Oisans, Vaujany and Villard-Reculas. On a sunny day you can see up to 1/5 of French territory from the “Pic Blanc” which rises to 3330m of altitude. 8000m of difference in height over 4 magical itineraries with one run having more than 2000m of difference in height that you can go down in one stretch without ever having to take a ski lift. It’s unique in France and in Europe.

The softly sloping runs of the lower pistes plus an exclusive area reserved just for the beginner levels allow gentle and progressive learning for all ages. In Alpe d’Huez we often say, the higher you climb, the harder the ski runs become. At the foot of the pistes, we find some easy runs and 2 protected areas adapted for children and beginners where excessive speed is forbidden.

Since 1936, Alpe d'Huez has expanded at an altitude of 1860m on the Southern flank of the Grandes Rousses Massif. This health resort enjoys an average of 300 sunny days a year, from which its name of "Island in the Sunshine". As a lifestyle resort, it aghers quality rental accommodation, an exceptional ski area, powerful ski lifts an d important vertical drop : 4 runs of more than 2000meters difference in height, and not to forget, world's longest slope of Sarenne, of a lenght of 16km. Only 1 hour away from Grenoble and less than 5 hours from Paris, Alpe d'Huez is a great playground with varied activities to do with family or with friends

Recent Improvements
Modernising the first section of the Marmottes with a new 6 seater chair lift, the S.A.T.A. is optimizing one of the two main axes of the ski area. For maximum comfort and faster capacity, a 6 seater Poma Lift with weather protective shields will replace the 6 person gondola car; so the S.A.T.A. is working on enhancing and modernizing one of the principal axes of the area which leaves from the ‘front de neige’ going towards the Sarenne. With the new chair lift, everything is set up to ensure comfort and security. To facilitate children embarking on the lift, a special inclinable rolling mat can be adjusted in relation to the children’s height and will therefore prevent any risk of slipping off. The chairs are also equipped with safety bars. There’s a new ski run called Les Ancolies, a blue run 1,800m over 5 hectares. This run will link the arrival of the new Marmotte ski lift (2300m) to the arrival of the 1st leg of the DMC (2100m).
